Self-Help Resources

There are a lot of useful self-help resources available for individuals in recovery and their families. These resources can be helpful for those who don't want to seek professional services as well as those who are actively engaged in psychotherapy. Here are some of my favorites:

The Center for Motivation and Change in NYC has an excellent blog that addresses many of the common issues faced by individuals in recovery, and their families. http://motivationandchange.com/cmcs-blog-for-individuals-and-families/

Sober Families has a great blog, podcasts, and a 10-part email course that provides useful tips on supporting a loved one in their recovery efforts. http://www.soberfamilies.com

For family members looking for self-help books, Drs. Robert Meyers and Brenda Wolfe have written an excellent book that is based on CRAFT. Get Your Loved One Sober: Alternatives to Nagging, Pleading, and Threatening is available on Amazon and in most bookstores. https://www.amazon.com/Get-Your-Loved-One-Sober/dp/1592850812/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474913480&sr=8-1&keywords=get+your+loved+one+soberhttps://www.amazon.com/Get-Your-Loved-One-Sober/dp/1592850812/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474913480&sr=8-1&keywords=get+your+loved+one+sober" target="_blank">http://https://www.amazon.com/Get-Your-Loved-One-Sober/dp/1592850812/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474913480&sr=8-1&keywords=get+your+loved+one+sober

Another great resource for families is a book written by staff at the Center for Motivation and Change. Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change is available on Amazon and in most bookstores. https://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Addiction-Science-Kindness-People/dp/1476709483/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&keywords=beyond%20addiction&qid=1460564563&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=thecentformot-20&linkId=a2bdac21cc79489d6ec7cc4461efa8ea" target="_blank">http://https://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Addiction-Science-Kindness-People/dp/1476709483/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&keywords=beyond%20addiction&qid=1460564563&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=thecentformot-20&linkId=a2bdac21cc79489d6ec7cc4461efa8ea
